Chords, accompaniment, modes & how they communicate certain moods:
understanding the intended/associated mood a song seeks to express guides in appropriately applying chords in musical measures...
As an accompanist or musician, It's advisable not to disconnect yourself from the lyrics/emotion of the song. Catch the spirit of the song and set it on fire expressively on the right temperature.😁
Next time, you're rehearsing with your band or choir, it won't harm if you as an instrumentalist (musician) learn/internalize the lyrics, sing along the melody & appreciate the notes of the vocal parts as they try to unleash the mood/message therein; then you're better positioned to bring on matching chords, licks, spirito....
Learn the meaning of each chord, the feelings they exude and make it count! Stop jamming too many chords without meaning! Let it be that when you mute the vocals, your accompaniment can still deliver the mood/feelings of the song aright!
